CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER

Our client is a small personal lines property and casualty insurance company born from a powerful idea supported by venture capital, matured by the rigorous demands of success in an industry of giants, and currently thriving in partnership with a strong private equity partner. To reach their full potential, this company needs a strong and experienced CFO for this Minnesota position.

The CFO position in this entrepreneurial company must have experience in and currently possess hands on skills in all areas of accounting and finance. This position demands the capability to play many instruments within the accounting and financial areas, not just the ability to act as a conductor of these finely tuned instruments.

You will be the leader of the corporation’s Financial and Accounting for their employees and other stakeholders. These groups must perceive your leadership skills. How many direct or dotted line reports this position entails will be established by the CFO. This leadership position requires not only superior intelligence, and organizational skills, but personal skills including the ability to intensely focus, have a high level of energy, and possess mental and physical stamina. Moral integrity is an absolute.

You will be the executive responsible for the organization, accuracy, consistency, timeliness, and communication of financial and operational measurement information to all stake holders, including their Investors, Board of Directors, rating agencies, regulatory authorities, and other members of the public. Direct involvement in helping to design processes to meet world class standards is expected, and design and implementation knowledge of Sarbanes Oxley, Enterprise Risk Management is required.

This position will lead the administrative, financial and accounting elements of the Board of Director meetings. Experience with the technical and communication aspects of board of director meetings is important. Specific knowledge of agenda setting, rules of procedure and conduct, support material selection and production, and BOD meeting directional capabilities are important.

The CFO will have a key role in the planning process. Superior strategic planning and operational planning skills must be accompanied by fluidity in spread sheets and key modeling skills. General knowledge of operational processes must be accompanied by the ability to design and implement appropriate process measurements, and other leading indicator measurements, as well as the usual appropriate financial measurements.

The CFO will be the executive responsible for the establishment of key criteria and general management of key corporate financial related vendor relationships such as the corporation’s banks, rating agencies and investment services.

The position will lead the Financial and accounting aspects of the company’s acquisition strategy. Experience with M&A must be accompanied by the ability to analyze other company financials, develop appropriate purchase scenarios, help negotiate and edit purchase or partner documents, and work directly with both legal and private equity participants.

Requirements:

Experience from a Property/Casualty insurance background is highly preferred. Must have a solid background with leading a finance organization: M&A, Debt Documents, Transaction documents, Yellow Book, Portfolio Management, Rating agencies such as AM Best. Other experience includes strong leadership, Strategic Planning, M&A Integration, Modeling, Budget, Board Operational, Board Financial, Investor Relations and Accounting GAAP. Typical educational background will include BS in Accounting, advanced education is a plus and CPA.

PREMIUM AUDITING AND ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST

Growing Twin Cities organization providing workers compensation services to insurance companies and self insureds has newly created position! Will relocate qualified candidates to the Twin Cities.

Responsibilities:

Perform audits of insurance companies and self insureds at their place of business and through analysis of insured completed self-audits. Determine the adequacy and accuracy of financial data and reporting as it relates to workers compensation premium. Create detailed audit reports documenting field audits.

Participate in the process of annual adjustments, renewals, and experience modification factor calculations. Ensure the accurate and timely billing of premiums and follow-up on accounts receivable. Review of the premium system on an ongoing basis to recommend system changes and enhancements. Serve as a technical insurance resource for clients and staff. Review and recommend updates to company web and system contents. Serve as a backup resource for reimbursement and accounts payable check signing and for miscellaneous treasury functions. Desired skills:

Position Summary: This position is responsible for the creation, design and definition of life insurance products, financial reporting, modeling and asset/liability management.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Design, review and help administer life insurance plans, determining financial soundness, calculating premiums, determining reserve requirements

• Collaborate with marketing and senior management to develop new life insurance products and services

• Coordinate, prepare and perform actuarial analyses to assist in the development of pricing strategies and financial forecasts

• Interpret, prepare and present key actuarial information to advise Senior Management

• Provide guidance and advice regarding technical actuarial issues such as pricing rates, modeling methodology, and reserving principles

Qualifications:

• This position requires a FSA designation – Fellow of Society of Actuaries

• 10 years of Life Insurance experience (pricing, product development, and reserve forecasting)

• Bachelor’s degree in a mathematical discipline

WORKERS COMPENSATION CLAIMS ANALYST

The Position:

In this role, you will handle Minnesota and South Dakota Workers Compensation files to conclusion. Must have experience as Workers Compensation Claims Representative in an insurance company or TPA. In this position, you will maintain accountability for all assigned claims until disposition is reached, unless circumstances require special treatment of the claim. Provide accurate and timely information to all customers concerning claim status and other claim inquiries. Perform service calls on policyholders and agencies. Document all activity on assigned claims and assist in the control of independent vendors. Conduct and coordinate loss investigation on all assigned claims, to include large, complex claims. Negotiate the settlement of claims within file authority. Recommend further action on claims exceeding authority limits. Review reserves and recommend changes where necessary.

Participate in arbitration, mediation and other ADR programs. Provide claim support during catastrophes. Guide and assist in the development of peers/claims personnel. Improve processes within the Company to increase the level and quality of service provided to customers.

Job Responsibilities:

4. Acquires reinsurance as needed. Contacts facultative reinsurers and negotiates according to company standards for larger risks by contacting reinsurers with the best price and coverage within delegated authority limits.

Training and Experience:

EDUCATION: BA/BS degree or equivalent

EXPERIENCE: 5 or more years of direct underwriting experience. In-depth knowledge of all commercial lines products is needed.
